HABITAT
Most of the time squids will be found 1,000 feet below the surface. Below the surface, the water is much fresher down there and they can have nobody to disturb or bother them. A specific habitat of a squid depends on what type of squid you’re looking for. For example, the bast squid is located in a range from Massachusetts to North Carolina and can also be found in large numbers around the Gulf of Mexico, Hawaii, and California. The Northern Atlantic Ocean is also a home for many of these species of squids. For example, the colossal squid is found in the ocean waters of Antarctica. They have been able to survive in these extremely freezing temperatures. SQUID FEEDING Squid’s most common foods include various types of small fish, crabs, and shrimp and some squids have been known to eat smaller squids than them. Some squids eat planktons, but some plankton contains parasites and other materials that are not healthy for them. SQUIDS PREDATORS There are not so many squid predators out there in the wild. However, they’re a very important food source of birds, a variety of fish, and even sharks (when talking about giant squids). SQUID REPRODUTION Did you know that there are more than 500 different types of squid species? Squids have a very unique way to reproduce. It seems that it’s the same way to reproduce for many squids. Thousands of eggs can be reproduced from a single female. Scientists still have not found how squid’s eggs develop inside the eggs. The baby squid fends for itself since from the beginning of their lives they even all ready know how to swim. Unhappily, many get killed in their first days of lives. Many female species die due to the reproduction of their baby’s births, it is also due to the short span of these creatures live. SQUID ANATOMY The anatomy of a squid might be really interesting. So if you haven’t given them so much importance you might want to give them a better look. One interesting fact is that some squid species have four hearts and some have two hearts. If you want to find more go to this website where I got this information go to http://www.squid-world.com “EXTREME SQUIDS!!!” Compiled by Mariano Castro You read about blizzards today in your text. After reading The Night of the Twister, check out one of the articles found HERE.
1. Record 3 facts you learned about tornadoes. 2. How is the article organized? Compare/contrast, cause/effect, chronological order, main idea, or problem/solution? Why? 3. Watch the video. 4. Record a list of adjectives or describing words for the video and the tornado in it. Use your imagination! You have read about, watched a video about, and recorded facts about the layers of the atmosphere. Because you all wanted to know more about the troposphere, HERE is a link to an article describing it and other layers.
